A nine-year-old girl has passed away due to her injuries after being shot in the head as she played on a trampoline in north Minneapolis.
According to reports, Trinity Ottoson-Smith had been hospitalized for nearly two weeks, but sadly doctors couldn’t save her.
John Elder, Minneapolis police spokesman, said: “For the last 12 days, she fought for her life and today that fight ended.
“At 4:04 p.m. she was pronounced deceased at the hospital.”
The nine-year-old was attending a friend’s birthday party with other children on May 15 when she was struck by a bullet.
Elder continued: “Our officers who showed up at this scene with the nine-year-old girl critically injured with a gunshot to her head knowingly violated policy by picking this girl up, running her to the squad and taking her to the hospital, doing what they could to save her life. That’s who the Minneapolis Police Department is.”
Last week, six-year-old Aniya Allen was shot while riding in her family’s car and died from her injuries. 10-year-old Ladavionne Garrett Jr., meanwhile, was also shot in his parents’ vehicle on April 30. Ladavionne remains in critical condition.
The victims’ families are now aiming to wage a war on gun violence, and want those responsible for the shootings to come forward. At present, there is a $30,000 reward for information that helps solve the three cases.
“People know who did this, come forward with that information, you can remain anonymous through CrimeStoppers and still receive a financial reward,” said Elder.
