A woman who fell in love with her partner ‘at first sight’ eight months after he underwent a 24-hour face transplant described feeling ‘like a punching bag’ for online trolls.
Ohioan Jessica Perez, 32, met 24-year-old Joe DiMeo via social media after reading about his story, and she “fell in love with him the first time I hugged him.”
Mr. DiMeo, a New Jersey resident, sustained third-degree burns over 80% of his body after crashing his Dodge Challenger in July 2018. In the subsequent months, he undertook twenty reconstructive plastic surgeries and skin grafts before undergoing the groundbreaking transplants in a 24-hour operation in August 2020.
