In a case that has sparked public outrage and reignited discussion about child brides, an eight-year-old Yemeni girl who had married a man five times her age died of internal hemorrhage on the night of her wedding, according to a social activist and two locals.
The girl, known only as Rawan, was wed to a 40-year-old man in the town of Meedi in the Hajjah region of northwest Yemen, according to Arwa Othman, chairman of Yemen House of Folklore and a prominent rights activist.
