When a single father had one to share Valentine’s Day with, instead of sulking, he manned up and took his six-year-old daughter out to a special dinner. While dad doesn’t have much money, he splurged and took his little princess to her favorite place, Old Spaghetti Factory, where they enjoyed pasta.
During the meal, dad told his daughter funny stories, they giggled and had a great time. With their meal finished and their date drawing to a close, dad received his bill and was about to pay. But then he noticed a note scribbled on the back of his receipt.
And what it said brought tears to this single father’s eyes…
Many people look down on single parents. They accuse them of putting their selfish interests first before the children because they didn’t stay together “for the kids”. But every parent tries their best no matter the circumstances of their lives and the relationships they are in.
As it turned out, a couple nearby was watching this single father spend Valentine’s Day with his six-year-old daughter the whole meal. They were smitten by the man and his girl and wanted to let the father know how much they appreciated what he was doing for his daughter.
Inspired by the generous father, they wanted to share in the kindness. When you read the note that the couple left on his receipt, you’ll understand why dad started crying right in front of his daughter.
Here’s what the anonymous couple wrote on the back of dad’s Old Spaghetti Factory receipt:
Hi there!
Sorry to spy, but my husband and I saw you out with your little date and were so impressed with what a great Dad you are. From two adults who grew up without dads, it’s so important to have a male role model at a young age. Keep up the good work Dad! Dinner is on us!
Dad couldn’t hold back his tears. He finally felt appreciated after trying to hard to raise his daughter right. It felt good that someone noticed what he was doing.
Dad cried at the table right in front of his daughter. She asked what was wrong and he said nothing, it was just a miracle. When he returned home after the meal, dad posted a photo of the receipt onto Imgur with the caption: “I wish I could thank them.”
He also admitted to the world these words: “I won’t lie, I teared up at the table. So, thank you random strangers. Thank you.”
Having these people pay for the meal made dad feel appreciated. Someone had taken kindness into their hearts and gave it back tenfold. This small act made dad feel appreciated and made his daughter’s Valentine’s Day super special.
I wish I could thank them
Here’s what some people wrote on LittleThings.com about the story:
“Me and my wife went on a valentine’s date but took our son, he was about 2 years old. I let her eat, while I carried him, while he was sleeping. Then it was my turn to eat, and I past him over. An older couple came over and paid for our meal, they said they were moved by spending time together as a family…”
“I grew up with My Dad and I was always with him on his weekends off even if he was doing yard work and going to the City Dump. My Dad was always there for me throughout my Life. I did indeed look for a guy with the same characteristics as my Precious Father. Kind, loving, patient. Heaven hit the Jackpot when they got my Daddy. I Miss him terribly even 25 years later.”
