A Colorado-based animal rights attorney has pleaded guilty to multiple charges in relation to conspiracy to murder for alleged murder to target her husband’s girlfriend, her attorney has confirmed to LBL.
Jennifer Emmy, 43, has been charged with second-degree murder, intimidation, strangulation with passion, attempting to influence a judge, breaching a bail bond, retaliation against a witness and stalking – all felony charges.
Emmy also faces misdemeanor charges including criminal mischief, reckless driving, molestation, and two counts of child abuse involving her own children.
Emmy, who is based in the city of Evergreen, is a well-known animal rights attorney in the area, having worked at The Animal Law Center and appearing on local TV.
According to an affidavit filed in January, her ex-husband told investigators that he feared for his life as well as the lives of his children and his girlfriend.
Emmy’s attorney, Colin Bracey, told a judge in February that the comments her client had allegedly made were out of proportion and stemmed from her frustration over their impending divorce.
The affidavit states that Emmy had contacted a farmhand and a trained military sniper about the murder of her husband’s girlfriend in November of 2020.
Emmy was arrested in January.
Law enforcement documents obtained by LBL say that Emmy, also known as Jennifer Edwards, reportedly had a history of threats and violent behavior against her children.
In January 2020, Emmy “pulled a knife” at her estranged husband, Donald “Donnie” Emmy, and “put it in her throat”, according to allegations of Donnie Amy that surfaced in Jefferson County law enforcement documents, when he was holding one of the children. .
Emmy’s sentencing is scheduled to begin on August 16 at 1 p.m. before Judge Randall Earp.
