Las Vegas, Nevada – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has apprehended 28-year-old Keonte Jones on charges of felony willful disregard of a person’s safety in connection with a tragic incident that led to the death of a homeless man. According to a press release, Jones allegedly paid 55-year-old Larry Coner, who was homeless, $6 to perform a backflip. The harrowing event was livestreamed on Facebook.
On June 20, Larry Coner approached Keonte Jones asking for money when the unfortunate incident unfolded. Jones offered Coner $6 to do a backflip and proceeded to record the stunt live on social media. Tragically, during the third attempt at the backflip, Coner landed on his neck, rendering him unconscious. Shockingly, despite the severity of the situation, Jones continued to film the incident while laughing. Onlookers were also recorded laughing and making disturbing comments about Coner’s condition, stating that he had “gone to sleep.”
Emergency services rushed Coner to a nearby hospital, where he was diagnosed with a serious spinal injury. Tragically, Coner succumbed to his injuries and passed away ten days later.
A family member of Coner notified the police, who promptly initiated an investigation into the matter. Keonte Jones was subsequently arrested in connection with the incident.
The video footage of the incident has raised public outrage and concern, as it portrays a callous and dangerous act that led to a loss of life. Jones has been released on bond, but further legal proceedings are expected.
Coner’s sister, Coressia Williams, has set up a GoFundMe page in his memory. In her account, she mentioned that her brother had been battling mental health issues, which worsened after the death of their mother in 2018. The fatal injury occurred while Coner was walking home after being discharged from the hospital. Tragically, he passed away on June 30, which coincidentally was their mother’s birthday.
At this time, it remains unclear whether Jones has legal representation available for comment. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and authorities are urging the public to come forward with any relevant information that might assist in the case.
