Mom and dad of 2-year-old girl, whose crib was filled with cigarette stubs and urne-soaked blankets, kept used syringes and capsules containing heroin within the toddler’s reach before the child died from drug overdose in addition to nicotine exposure; sentenced

Prosecutors said the 30-year-old mother, Ana, and the 38-year-old dad, Jessy, were both sentenced to 11 years in prison after they pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and child abuse (disregard for life).

According to the court documents, their 2-year-old daughter reportedly died after she ingested fentanyl and tranquilizer.

Last year, deputies responded to the parent’s home and found the 2-year-old unresponsive. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene, court records say. The responding deputies discovered that the child was living in terrible conditions. Ana and Jessy reportedly lived in a room in the home of Ana’s father, Timothy. Read the full story here ▶
