With picturesque snow-capped mountains, world-class skiing and plenty of remote wilderness, Colorado is one of the country’s premiere winter destinations.
Don’t just take our word for it. This month, Country Living magazine spotlighted the prettiest towns in America to visit in the winter and of the 40 locations listed, six are in Colorado.
Country Living lauded Glenwood Springs (No. 5) for its must-hit hot springs and local attractions like the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, which this summer opened the highest elevation roller coaster in the United States.
For visitors seeking a slower paced mountain town, the publication recommended Dunton (No. 7), where hot springs, snowshoeing and cross country skiing are the main draws.
When it comes to slopeside destinations, Country Living praised Telluride (No. 18), which boasts “everything from low-key sleigh rides to high-adrenaline heli-skiing”; Crested Butte (No. 25), which goes all out for New Year’s Eve with a torchlight parade; and Steamboat Springs (No. 31), which “checks all the Colorado boxes: skiing, hot springs, and a picturesque downtown.”
Ouray (No. 39), which offers some of the best ice climbing in the country, rounded out Country Living’s list. See the full 40 here.
