Wayne Gallman Signs With San Francisco 49ers

Entering the season, Wayne Gallman was supposed to be nothing more than a backup to superstar running back Saquon Barkley. However, after Barkley went down in Week 2, Gallman stepped up and answered the call. After winning the starting job over Devonta Freeman and Dion Lewis, the Clemson product ended up putting together a pretty solid season. In total, Gallman carried the ball 147 times for 682 yards and six touchdowns while adding on an additional 21 receptions for 114 yards in the passing game.

Gallman initially entered the league as a fourth-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Selected by the New York Giants, the Clemson product spent the vast majority of his rookie season as a backup. However, he did earn one start in his 13 games and managed to make some nice plays when on the field. Overall, Gallman recorded 476 rushing yards on 111 attempts as a rookie to go along with 34 receptions for 193 yards and a touchdown.

The Giants drafted Saquon Barkley with the second-overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, which means Gallman took a backseat behind the Penn State prodigy. Overall, Gallman saw just 51 carries for 176 yards and a touchdown during Barkley’s rookie season. However, Gallman did earn a chance to fill in for an injured Barkley in 2019. The former fourth-round pick earned two starts in his 10 games played, recording 110 carries and two touchdowns on 29 rushing attempts to go along with 11 receptions for 102 yards and an additional score.

Overall, Gallman has accumulated 1,444 rushing yards, 498 receiving yards, and a combined 11 touchdowns during his four years in the NFL.
