11-year-old Aubreigh Nicholas touched our country with her very unfortunate story last year. In 2017, she was diagnosed with with a tumor called diffuse intrinsic pontine gliomas (DIPG) — its a rare and very aggressive brain tumor that is located at the base of the brain.
Everyone, from fans and supporters followed her story closely on Facebook via a page called “Aubreigh’s Army.” The family constatly shared updates concerning regarding Aubreigh’s health and special memories Aubreigh made during her short, but well-lived lifetime.
As reported by Fox 10, Aubreigh became the girl who inspired the Lemon Face Challenge — which is an online campaign where people recorded clips of them reacting to sinking their teeth into a slice of sour lemon. The money gained from the campaign were donated to DIPG awareness and research efforts. Many different celebrities, such as Jimmy Buffett and the Los Angeles Dodgers, took part in the challenge.
Sadly, On Wednesday, August 15th, the family made a heartbreaking announcement. The 11-year-old child died as a due to her rare health situation.
“With a huge heavy heart, I am reporting that my baby girl took her last breath at 6:43,” the family announced on the Facebook page. “She is one heck of a fighter, but she died so peacefully.”
Despite the tragic news, Aubreigh’s family is keeping a strong faith in God through it all. Prior to Aubreigh’s death, her family regularly shared Bible verses and other messages of faith. Even after Aubreigh completed her journey on earth, the family kept their eyes on our Heavenly Father.
“She is no longer suffering and danced into God’s arms today…Our faith has grown so much from her and she has made us so much better! Our life will be forever changed, but she is whole again!” the post stated.
