What would you do if you saw a wild (dangerous) animal stuck in a hunter’s trap? This is the question that two Canadian men faced while walking in the woods recently. The two men saw a lynx struggling to free its paw from a trap.

The two men were not going to let the lynx suffer – but how would they free the animal without getting hurt themselves?

Hunting lynx in Canada became illegal in the early 1990s as their numbers in the wild dropped. Then in 2000, because there were so few left, the lynx was put on the endangered species list.

As you can imagine, the pain the lynx was in was immense and having two humans approach was probably terrifying. The men were able to devise an ingenious plan to get the lynx free quickly.

The timing on the rescue had to be spot on so no one would get hurt.

With the help of two sturdy branches, the men were able to pin the lynx’s head down.
