He sat on the same street corner for three years in Webster, Texas. He would stand out there in all kinds of weather too. Who truly pays attention to those people begging on the corner? Do you? Maybe you look away and avoid eye contact.
Ginger Sprouse paid attention to this homeless man, however.
She passed him at least four times a day. Finally, she got the courage to pull over and talk to him. His name is Victor Hubbard, 32, and he is struggling with mental illness. For three years, Victor has been sitting on that street corner because that is where his mother left him.
His very own mother abandoned him on the street. It was as if Victor was waiting for his mother to come back for him.
Ginger was shocked to hear this story. She started to visit Victor regularly and even let him come to her house when the weather was very cold.
Ginger was able to get Victor some mental health care too. She was able to give him a job at the cooking school she and her husband started called Art of the Meal.
Ginger has documented this incredible journey on the Facebook page she created called “This is Victor.” Soon donations and support for Victor came in!
He got clothing and supplies and doctor’s appointments. The story went viral around the world. Victor’s uncle got wind of the story, and Victor was even reunited with his mother. Victor says that Ginger saved him.
