Elderly War Veteran Set On Fire And Murdered By Neighborhood Teen

Violence and hate are at all-time highs in America. While this might sound like a distant problem for many people, it can affect anyone at any time. Current members of the military are at particular risk – especially since suicide rates among Army, Air Force, and National Guard service members has skyrocketed 30% over the last six months! But this story focuses on how a 91-year-old World War II veteran named Paul Monchnik died at the hands of a violent teenager.

When Monchnik moved to the United States at eight-years-old, he knew he wanted to be an American. And what is more patriotic than joining the United States Military. So when the world erupted into combat during World War II, the young Monchnik signed up to do his part and help put an end to white supremacy and hate in the world.

Before and after he fought against Hitler and his Nazis, Monchnik lived in Detroit, Michigan. Because he loved the city, he stayed there his entire life, building a happy life for himself.

But that was all torn away from him suddenly when Monchnik came into contact with 17-year-old George Steward. The teenager allegedly killed the WWII veteran by burning him alive. The crude act of violence could not have been crueler. According to reports, the teen doused the veteran in gasoline and then lit him up like a torch.

The son of the victim, 56-year-old Scott Monchnik, arrived at the location of the fire. It was the man’s childhood home – but it was nothing like he remembered it. The place was burned to the ground, and his father was dead.

Scott found the floor soaked in blood. Apparently, the World War II veteran was beaten before his body was doused in gasoline and set alight. The victim’s son described it as a “scene from hell.”

According to Scott, the WWII veteran was a delightful person who kept up to date on everything with his subscription to the newspaper. But that was all taken away because the violent crime ended his life.

The son added, “He had no prejudice, he had no malice, and he was a kind-hearted man. He worked very, very hard to support his wife and his family, and he wanted to live to be 100, and this kid cut that short.”

Scott is horrified that his father had to endure such violence at the end of his long life.

“His life was brutally taken from us by a monster. The terrible sickening feeling I get thinking that my dad’s last hour on Earth was filled with horror and pain, worse than anything he went through in the war.”

Now Scott wants law enforcement to crack down on the suspected murderer.

“This man (Steward) has created a hole in all of us that is filled with anger and hatred, fear, and loss. You have taken something that was not yours to take.”

The teenager faces up to sixty years behind bars for what he did to the old veteran. The teen has pleaded guilty.
