A former army medic from Tennessee has been sentenced for the brutal death of his 9-month-old daughter. Christopher Paul Conway, 25, a resident of Clarksville, was found guilty of sexually assaulting one of his twin daughters then strangling her with a dehumidifier cord.
During the time of the crime, Conway was just 22 years old and serving as a medic in the army at Fort Campbell. He faced multiple charges following the horrific death of one of his twin daughters, Adeline, in 2017, which shook their peaceful community.
In 2018, he was charged with aggravated rape of a child, two counts of first-degree murder in perpetration of a felony, and aggravated child abuse and neglect, according to Clarksville Now.
As part of his “no contest” agreement, on Friday, Conway pleaded guilty to second-degree murder to avoid a trial. He entered his plea a few weeks before his scheduled bench trial date.
Mom found her infant daughter unresponsive
On November 14, 2017, family members summoned police to their home, reporting a medical call of CPR in progress. Upon arrival, the officers saw the unresponsive infant.
Adeline was rushed to Tennova Healthcare to receive immediate medical attention. However, around 8 a.m., the infant succumbed to her injuries.
According to reports, a few hours before the baby was discovered, Conway had reported for duty at Fort Campbell around 4:30 a.m. It took more than two hours before his wife Emily discovered their infant daughter, according to Daily Mail.
Emily found Adeline unresponsive, with the dehumidifier cord wrapped around her arm and neck. During that time, the baby was just starting to crawl.
Father immediately confessed
Investigators immediately interviewed Conway to see if he has any involvement in the crime. He was taken to the police station, where he confessed to taking advantage and killing his infant daughter.
Later examination confirmed that the infant was sexually assaulted. She also died from asphyxiation due to the cord that was tightly wrapped in her neck.
Shortly after admitting it, Conway tried to recant his confession. Police charge Christopher Paul Conway with the horrific crime.
‘No sentence harsh enough’
Assistant district attorney Kimberly Lund claimed that the family agreed with the plea deal. She also hopes that Adeline’s surviving twin and their family will eventually recover from this traumatizing incident, cited by Crime Online.
“This has been a very difficult case for all parties involved. There will never be a sentence harsh enough to ease the death of a child. Adeline was a beautiful baby whose life was taken far too soon. I hope her sister and family can find peace now that this case has been resolved.”
Conway was sentenced to 15 years in prison with no possibility of parole.
