Fatal crash closes portion of East Dry Creek Road in Centennial

Two people were killed in a fatal crash Sunday afternoon that forced authorities to close part of East Dry Creek Road in Centennial, according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened at about 1:30 p.m. on East Dry Creek Road between South Yosemite Street and South Alton Way. A driver lost control of a vehicle and hit a parking garage, according to the sheriff’s office. The vehicle then burst into flames.

The driver died at the scene of the crash, and a passenger died after being taken to a hospital. Neither victim has been publicly identified.

Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Ginger Delgado could not say Sunday whether investigators suspect the driver was intoxicated or speeding before the crash.

Authorities initially closed all eastbound lanes of East Dry Creek Road and all but one lane of the westbound road between South Yosemite Street and South Alton Way, but reopened the westbound lanes around 3:20 p.m.

The eastbound lanes are expected to be closed for several hours.
