According to the court documents, the 44-year-old father, Calvin, reportedly took his 15 month old daughter, Alcenti, to a hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
Her death reportedly caused some suspicions which led an investigation that led authorities to the hotel, where the father was staying. Police believe Calvin, an alleged member of a cult, kept them all locked inside the room and had ordered her daughter to withhold food from the others as punishment.
Inside they found Alcenti’s mother, Iasia. Three other emaciated children, ages 3 through 5, were also inside the room, as well as Calvin’s daughter, Najlaa, who bore two of the children for her father. Alcenti’s cause of death was ruled starvation. Read the full story here ▶
