Judge Gives Pastor Who Raped His Daughter An “Easy” Sentence Because He’s A Man Of God

Although former Pastor David Richards is a convicted rapist, Judge Steven Sword felt the sex offender deserved a break. Because the judge saw Richards as a “man of God,” he went easy on him, despite the fact that Richards was convicted of raping his own teen daughter repeatedly over a period of two years. While the prosecution wanted the child molester to rot behind bars for seventy-two years, Judge Sword felt the “man of God” should not be punished too severely for the horrific ways he abused his teen daughter for years.
Instead of following the prosecution’s recommended sentencing of seventy-two years, Judge Sword only gave the sex offender a light twelve-year prison sentence. Judge Sword was “impressed” that Richards began to work as a pastor while in jail and also led a Bible study group with other inmates. Because Judge Sword thought this was so admirable, he was willing to look the other way and let the Knox County Tennessee pastor practically get away with rape, incest, and sexual battery by an authority figure.

Richards’ victim was his adopted daughter, and he subjected the unlucky teen girl to years of abuse and incest that traumatized her and possibly ruined her life. His victim was named Amber. While she was allowed to remain anonymous given the disgusting details of Richards’ crimes, she bravely chose to come forward and identify herself, so she could speak out against the rapist because she feared that if given a chance, he would most certainly abuse more young girls and hurt them with his actions.

While giving her victim statement, Amber became emotional as she tried to convince the judge that Richards deserved to rot in prison for the unthinkable abuses he forced her to endure for years.

Amber (pictured above) stated: “I wanted to throw my body away. Not a day goes by that I don’t, in some way, think of what he did to me. I firmly believe if given the opportunity, he would victimize another girl.”

When her adoptive father was convicted of incest and rape in February, Amber said: “I’m glad I can finally move on with my life. I didn’t really do this for myself. I did it, so it didn’t happen to anyone else, so nobody’s in the same situation as I am, especially kids. They don’t deserve to go through things to do that. If I have to be the one to make sure that it never happens again, I don’t mind doing that.”

Judge Sword wasn’t convinced. He decided to side with the convicted rapist and gave the man a much lighter prison sentence than the general public thought he deserved for the horrible things he did to his adopted daughter while behind closed doors.

Meanwhile, Richards maintained his innocence throughout the trial, one of the things that helped convince Judge Sword to give him nothing more than a slap on the wrist. Richards even painted his victim as a liar who fabricated the allegations of rape and incest as a way of rebelling against him.

However, science proved the pastor wrong. Forensic testing found Richard’s semen all over his victim’s bed.

“I stand before you convicted of crimes I did not commit. I simply believe the system just erred in this case. I’m not sure why I’m here… but I assume it’s for His (God’s) purpose,” Richards said.

Do you think the rapist deserved more time behind bars for incest with his daughter?
