The Elderly Parents Are Wheeled Into The Basement And Given A Surprise New House By The Son

Our parents have the most impact on us throughout our lives, and whether this influence is positive or negative, it is undeniable that they are the ones who put us on the path to becoming the people we are today.

Those of us who were fortunate enough to have loving and supportive parents spend our lives trying to emulate them and make them happy.

However, every child eventually has to accept the fact that just like them, their parents are aging.

As children become adults, there are many ways they care for their elderly parents. In many cultures, it is not just normal but expected that an elderly parent moves in with their eldest child.

In the West, it is more likely that elderly parents are moved to a home or facility that can help them better. This is not always the case, though, as some kids go above and beyond for their parents, no matter where they are from.

According to Mail Online, George and Bonnie Miller had already spent quite a life together when they entered their golden years. But with both at 87 years old, however, Bonnie’s body began to fail her and, unfortunately, George’s mind wasn’t working like it used to.

George and Bonnie’s son, Schon, was very concerned about them. He knew they had such a deep love and needed to stay together, so he wasn’t keen on separating them.

“We had been talking about it with mom for a while because we knew they were leaning on each other with one good body and one good mind,” he told the publication. “One can’t live alone without the other and we didn’t want either one to end up in a nursing home,” he added.

Bonnie had suffered a fall and acquired a break in the shoulder that left her unable to do a lot of things she previously used to be able to do. This was when Schon and Jeannie, his wife, began to look for some other options for their living situation.

They began a search for a home that would include an in-law suite. Most of the time, in-law suites are small on-suites located within the single-family home or a small building in close proximity on the same property. This makes keeping an eye on older loved ones much easier. The problem was that they couldn’t find a home that fit exactly what they were looking for, as it would have only have made sense to invest in a home that could accommodate them all.

Then, they came up with an idea that served everyone’s purpose in the situation. “When we couldn’t find anything, we decided to blow a hole in the basement wall, get rid of our fun stuff like the pool table, instruments, and karaoke area and move them in so we could take care of them,” Schon said. This was an incredibly wonderful thing for a son and daughter-in-law to do, and it turned out to be an extremely emotional moment for Bonnie and George. The Mirror reported that Schon presented the new suite to his parents as an early Mother’s Day gift for Bonnie, which was certainly appreciated, as seen in a video the familiy filmed to mark the occasion.

In the video, Bonnie began to shed tears as she realized what her son and his wife had done for her and her husband. Schon and Bonnie had made some sacrifices but they knew that it would be more than worth it to see how happy Schon’s parents would be. The basement had been completely transformed into a suite that was comfortable and large enough for Schon’s parents. Schon and Jeannie even went as far as to supply it completely with everything they could need.

Not every child would go so far for their parents, but Schon has shown himself to be one of a kind.

Stories like this shed light on how important it is to have good relationships with your parents as well as your kids. When parents provide the support and love a child needs, they are much more appreciative of their actions in the future. Though parents may not always believe so, they can learn a lot from their children as well.
