On Tuesday, a beautiful mural painted in honor of George Floyd came crashing down in Toledo, Ohio. While some people feared that a group of white supremacists was responsible for the destruction, it was actually Mother Nature that tore down the memorial. During a storm that passed through Ohio, causing destruction through its path, a bolt of lightning struck the George Floyd mural and forced it to come crashing down into a pile of rubble.
However, the Floyd mural met an untimely end around 4:30 pm on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, according to a witness who happened to see it happen. The witness reported that the lightning strike came down on the building and forced the brick wall to crumble. Now the George Floyd mural is a pile of rubble thanks to the powerful lightning strike.
Some people feared that someone had purposely destroyed the Floyd mural as part of a White Lives Matter response to the Black Lives Matter movement. However, Doppler Radar was able to successfully confirm that a lightning strike attacked the neighborhood on Tuesday around the time the mural came crashing down.
Ross’s mural was entitled “Take a Breath,” which was installed on the wall in July 2020. Unfortunately, the mural barely survived in Toledo for a year before the freak lightning strike came down on the building with the wall.
Now, Toledo promises to create a new George Floyd mural since this one got destroyed by Mother Nature. Because this recently happened, the city has yet to settle on plans for the new mural, but a spokesperson confirmed that the city is committed to creating a new mural in honor of the Black Lives Matter movement. Right now, the City of Toledo has to figure out where they will put the new mural.
