Last year, on April 21, 2106, Amy Inita Joyner-Francis, 16, got attacked by some bullies in the bathroom at Howard High School of Technology in Wilmington, Delaware.
Why were the girls fighting? Over a boy. Amy was taken to A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children within thirty minutes of that fight.
She died from the injuries she sustained.
Kayla Wilson witnessed the fight, she said that while Amy was fighting with one girl, other girls started to jump on her.
Then someone reportedly smashed Amy’s head against one of the bathroom sinks. Talk about scary.
It was only 8:15 AM and classes hadn’t even started for the day. How often do we hear about students being killed in school by other students?
I wonder how many students knew of the fight and did nothing to stop it.
At the time, police had not released any details about the crime.
They were looking for more evidence – there were cell phone videos and some comments made on social media.
Dennis Williams, Wilmington’s Mayor, said his heart was broken and added that tragedies like that should not be happening.
Howard High School has an anti-bullying campaign – which clearly isn’t working. The students don’t listen to the messages.
Maybe after this shocking death, they will pay more attention.
One of the students who attacked Amy, Trinity Carr was tried as a juvenile.
At her hearing, Detective Tom Curley testified that Amy was punched in the head two dozen times.
I am at a loss for words. Parents, teach your children well.
Share away, people.
