In California, last Friday, a father and his two little children were killed by what is being suspected was a drunk driver after they left the house of a family member.
31-year-old Taverna Tarlton was driving his four children from his mother’s home in a Toyota Camry. A man driving a Ford Mustang struck their car at an intersection at around 11:45 p.m. in San Bernardino, as reported by KTLA.
Brandon Jaquez-Perez, 23, was the driver of the Mustang. He is accused of blowing a red light before striking the family’s car, the report cited the police as having said.
The impact of the crash left Tarlton’s car in flames and the father died on the scene when witnesses failed to pull him out of the vehicle.
His children ranged from the ages of 2 to 8 and were pulled out of the burning car and rushed to the hospital. However, the two youngest, the 2-year-old boy Farroe and his 4-year-old sister Eliza died at the hospital.
The children’s cousin, Kiya McClenton, said to the news outlet, “It just hurts … knowing that you’re not going to be able to hug them, not going to be able to kiss them anymore.”
She added, “I know even though they might not be here physically, but spiritually, they still are.”
The two other children, Khamyil and Dallas, are still hospitalized. A GoFundMe page has been set up for the family, to cover costs of hospitalization and funeral expenses.
The suspect, Jaquez-Perez, has been arrested on charges of suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.
