Although the 9/11 terrorist attacks resulted in the deaths of 2,977 people, millions of surviving family members and friends of victims were deeply and irreversibly affected. Of those millions of people, several hundred have expressed their outrage at sitting President Joe Biden. This cohort of people directly affected by the September 11 terrorist attacks are now using their power to assemble to urge President Joe Biden to uphold his pledge to declassify US government documents and evidence that might be able to prove a connection between leaders in Saudi Arabia and the most deadly terrorist attack in American history.
These documents might contain proof that Saudi Arabia supported the act of terrorism. When Biden was running for president, he made a campaign promise to transparency and said he would work to declassify some documents if elected. Now that he has been elected, he has not yet completed his end of the bargain, and these people are upset. They even claim he’s started ignoring their calls and various requests through the mail.
“We cannot believe in good faith, and with veneration to those lost, sick, and injured, welcome the president to our hallowed grounds until he fulfills his commitment,” they wrote in a statement obtained by NBC News. “Since the conclusion of the 9/11 Commission in 2004, much investigative evidence has been uncovered implicating Saudi government officials in supporting the attacks. Through multiple administrations, the Department of Justice and the FBI have actively sought to keep this information secret and prevent the American people from learning the full truth about the 9/11 attacks.”
The group hopes that documents part of a widespread FBI investigation into the attacks might prove links to the Saudi government. The report was completed back in 2016.
Brett Eagleson lost his father Bruce when the World Trade Center building collapsed. It has been twenty years, and all Eagleson wants is the truth. He is part of the group that has filed a federal lawsuit accusing Saudi Arabia of being complicit in the terrorist attacks that changed the landscape of modern America.
“We are frustrated, tired, and saddened with the fact that the US government for 20 years has chosen to keep information about the death of our loved ones behind lock and key,” said Eagleson.
“The Commission staff found no evidence that the Saudi government as an institution or as individual senior officials knowingly support or supported al Qaeda; however, a lack of awareness of the problem and a failure to conduct oversight over institutions created an environment in which such activity has flourished,” the report said.
Now, President Biden is the final hope for these people directly affected by the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Will Biden keep his campaign promise and declassify the documents? Time will tell.
