Transgender Inmate Serving In The Women’s Wing Rapes Female Prisoner

A transgender woman who was being held as an inmate in New York City’s Rikers Island prison has been accused of raping another female inmate during their internment. The transgender inmate, who has a history of violent offenses, is believed to have raped another woman after the pair finished their shower in the women’s section of the prison facility – mirroring the rise in violent crimes that have continued to plague New York City and other large metropolitan areas across the United States since the pandemic struck America under the leadership of former President Donald Trump.

The victim, who was thirty-three years old, has not been publicly identified. However, the attacker, Ramel Blount, also thirty-three, who goes by the name Diamond Blount, has since confessed to the sexual attack and entered a plea deal with the Bronx Attorney’s Office. The attack occurred on February 8, 2021, and was resolved rather slowly by the law enforcement agents responsible for dealing with inmates who get out of control, receiving a plea deal from Blount on April 7, 2022.

According to details of the Rikers Island attack, the victim had just finished showering when Blount attacked her from behind. Law enforcement explained that Blount held down the victim and raped her on February day, 2021. The attack occurred at the Rose M. Singer Center at Rikers Island prison off the coast of Manhattan.

The victim did the right thing and reported the attack to jail officials. They conducted a rape kit and confirmed that Blount’s DNA was identified by her profile in the New York State Registry.

In addition to the punishment she was currently serving in Rikers Island, Blount was given an additional seven years behind bars with an additional eight years of post-prison release supervision by an appropriate authority figure.

“Sexual violence against anyone is unacceptable,” Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said in a statement.

It is believed that Blount was being held in the women’s section of the prison because she identifies as a transgender woman. Despite this fact, authorities have not explained why she was held in the women’s section other than the fact that she identifies as a woman.

Blount has had trouble with the law in the past. Back in 2012, she was arrested following an assault outside of a gay bar in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village.

Now, Blount will need to register as a sex offender because of what she did to a fellow inmate in the prison. Authorities also ordered a full order of protection, given that Blount is dangerous to other people who are vulnerable to her attacks.

New York City wants to start fixing the troubled prison complex, which houses about five thousand inmates.

Mayor Eric Adams told New Yorkers to be patient while he works on improving the prison.

“Give me a chance. We have witnessed how others have failed. Now give me a chance. Let’s work together,” he said in part.
