Woman Feels Offended After Friend Warns Her She Can’t Wear Her ‘Same Blue Dress’ To Her Wedding

It’s no secret that some brides push their wedding planning expectations and execution a bit too much. While they have every right to want to make their wedding as perfect as possible, some of their requests might be too demanding or even impossible. For example, some couples ask their guests to adhere to a dress code or at least match the designated theme.

This was proving to be an issue for one wedding guest as she was getting ready to attend her friend’s wedding. The woman went to Reddit in March 2022 to explain her situation and get some advice from Reddit users on how she should approach the issue she was having with the bride.

The original poster (OP) explained how she currently lives in Canada, but she had gone to grade school in the United States. She still keeps in touch with her friends who currently live in America, but doesn’t see them very often. However, she has gone to visit on a few special occasions, mostly for holidays, birthdays, weddings and so on.

Since many of OP’s friends live in California, she has gotten used to having to dress for warmer weather on the rare occasions she visits them, but hasn’t done much to update her closet. However, one of her friends sent her a wedding invitation and clearly indicated that she didn’t want to see the same blue dress that OP wore to every other wedding she had been invited to.

Since then, OP has wondered what she should do regarding the dress situation, and asked Redditors for their help.

Starting off her Reddit post, OP talked about how she and her husband currently live in Canada, but she had gone to school in the United States. “So all my clothes are for cold weather only and I only have a small amount of dresses, skirts, warm weather attire,” she explained.

She went on to talk about how most of her friends currently reside in California, so she’s gotten used to having to dress for the warmer weather, but that doesn’t mean that she’s updated her closet. Instead, she has been rotating the same three dresses depending on the occasion, including a blue one and a black one. OP also has a few pairs of shorts.

OP continued, “So I’ve worn the same blue dress for all my friends’ weddings and in the latest one I got an invite to my friend’s wedding with the message, ‘don’t you dare wear that same blue dress.’” I’ve been teased by my friends about wearing the same thing.”

While OP noticed that many of her friends rarely repeat outfits, she has a pretty small wardrobe and likes to keep it functional for her job as a civil engineer. She added that since she doesn’t go out much, she doesn’t have a strong need for party dresses, and “it’s too cold for dresses normally.”

OP was confused about what she should do and turned to Redditors for advice. She said, “Do I have to buy a new dress for my friend’s wedding when she specifically said I can’t wear the same one? It’s not in bad shape, it’s only been worn a dozen times.”
