The Southwest flight was taking passengers from Sacramento to San Diego, California. However, the short flight was thrust into chaos when a customer lost control and launched an attack on a flight attendant. Although the passenger struck the crewmember in the face and knocked out some of her teeth, the passenger claimed that they were attacking the flight attendant out of self-defense and not because they lost control of their behavior.
Another passenger was a witness to the violence. This witness said that they overheard the flight attendant asking Quinonez not to touch her, which was when the 28-year-old allegedly threw a punch at the Southwest employee.
The attack left the flight attendant bloodied in the back of the plane. She lost two teeth from the fight and was wheeled off the Southwest flight in a wheelchair because she had been injured by the out-of-control passenger.
Unfortunately, the flight attendants’ union has reported that there has been a surge in “unruly behavior by airline passengers,” which has resulted in injuries and other problems.
CBS Sacramento reported on the criminal activity and how Quinonez is claiming she acted in self-defense when she attacked the flight attendant and left her battered and bloodied. Here’s what viewers had to say in the comments of the YouTube video included below.
“People who act like that on planes should be BANNED for life from flying any airline.”
“This is one of the reasons people don’t want to go back to those dead-end jobs like waiters and hotel workers because some people are so entitled and disrespectful.”
“The passenger CLEARLY punched first. That self-defense strategy is not going to work. That girl is going to jail big time as she should.”
“These passengers are the type that should be on a no-fly list. They pose a danger to airline travel and other passengers.”
Paying for her legal fees, the legal fees of the woman she assaulted, paying court fines and for the woman’s medical bills, paying fines to the airline for having to be escorted off the plane, serving jail time, and revoking her right to ever fly again, sounds like a good beginning for this bitter and self-righteous woman.”
In general, viewers felt that Quinonez needed to be charged for the incident.
“Throw the book at her: jail time, big fine, and no-fly list. No parole. No bs.”
What do you think about the rising violence occurring on flights across the United States? What can airlines do to help calm down out-of-control passengers?
