A pedestrian was hit by an Aurora Water pickup truck Friday and later died at a hospital.
The crash happened at about 9 a.m. Friday at East 6th Avenue and North Helena Street, police said in a news release.
A 66-year-old woman was crossing 6th Avenue, going north to south using the west crosswalk at Helena Street, when she was hit by the 28-year-old driver of a 2015 Ford F-350 truck. The truck was northbound on Helena, and the driver was making a left turn onto 6th Avenue.
The driver, a city employee, remained at the scene. He showed no signs of impairment, police said. He has not been cited in the crash.
The driver voluntarily submitted to a blood draw analysis after the collision, police said, per standard city and federal requirements involving employee-related crashes. Test results are pending and an investigation is ongoing.
The woman’s identity will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.
“We’re extremely saddened by today’s incident,” said Marshall Brown, general manager of Aurora Water, in the release. “We’re fully cooperating with the investigation and extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family.”
Anyone who witnessed the crash, or who has dash-camera footage, and who has not talked with investigators is asked to call the department’s traffic section at 303-739-6423.
The crash was the 36th traffic-related fatality in the city this year, police said.
