Fremont County Sheriff’s deputy shoots armed man in Cañon City

A Fremont County sheriff’s deputy shot a man brandishing a gun in Cañon City on Thursday morning, according to a news release.

At about 8:30 a.m. a deputy responding to a report of a man armed with a gun contacted a man walking in the 400 block of Greydene Avenue, the sheriff’s office news release said. The 28-year-old Cañon City man brandished a gun and he was shot by the deputy.

The man was taken to Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs. He is expected to survive, the sheriff’s office said.

The deputy, per office policy, is on administrative leave. The deputy and the man shot were not identified Thursday. The police shooting is being investigated by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, the sheriff’s office, Cañon City police and the 11th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
