Suspect arrested in deadly December shooting near Las Vegas Strip

Police have arrested a suspect in a deadly shooting reported back in December near the Las Vegas Strip, according to arrest records.

An arrest warrant was issued for Barry James Raymond, 33, after the shooting on Sunday, Dec. 13, in the 4700 block of Deckow Lane, just east of Las Vegas Boulevard.

In their arrest warrant, police say Raymond’s mother let into her apartment her son and a man she didn’t know, later identified as Jacqwan Rankin, 32.

The mother said that at some point, she heard a loud bang and saw Rankin slump over and Raymond put a gun into his waistband, according to the report.

Police said at the time that the two men got into an argument, though Raymond’s mother indicated they weren’t arguing before the shooting, the warrant states.

The mother and her other son tried to leave, but Raymond initially wouldn’t let them, police alleged.

They eventually left the apartment and went to a neighbor in the apartment building. Raymond followed them, allegedly “made statements to the [effect] he had shot Rankin” and went back to his mother’s apartment, where he was seen going through Rankin’s pockets, according to the report.

Raymond then ran away from the building, last seen heading toward Koval Lane.

Arrest records indicate Raymond was taken into custody on Saturday, March 13. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 29.
